What makes us unique?

Trikeenan Tileworks, now going on 20 years of manufacturing of handcrafted ceramic tile in the Northeastern USA, produces some of today’s most original tile designs. With two manufacturing facilities in the Northeast - West Swanzey, NH and Hornell, NY, Trikeenan boasts a wide variety of processes, techniques and designs.

Trikeenan is committed to a sustainable philosophy and to combining age-old materials and techniques with innovative, new processes. To produce the Glass Windows tile line, for example, Trikeenan artisans fuse 100% recycled glass and ceramic in a firing technique that is unique in the industry. Also unique are Trikeenan’s proprietary glazes and firing techniques, which produce a spectrum of colour effects that are both brilliant and subtle.

Stephen and Kristin Powers, the company's founders, continue to create all of Trikeenan’s tile designs—from the traditional Arts & Crafts decorative line to the whimsical Clothesline to our very popular Glass Windows collection.

Our newest line, Modulus, made in our NY facility, now boasts 50 beautiful colours at an incredibly reasonable price point.  The focus of Modulus is large format tile perfect for commercial and hospitality installations as well as residential applications.  Modulus' pallet of 50 colours was specifically created to integrate with the 47 glazes in our Basic's Collection.

What's in a Name?

Are you wondering where the word 'Trikeenan' comes from? It is an amalgamation of Kristin and Stephen's children, Keenan (now 20!) and Trina (an 18 year old beauty!).  Their 3rd child, Siena, at 13 years now, is feisty enough to embolden her colour everywhere in the world of Trikeenan - so do not fear, her presence is quite alive!

The Integrity of Craftsmanship

Trikeenan Tileworks combines age-old materials and techniques with innovative design and new processes, resulting in some of the most original and beautiful tile on the market today. Proudly made in either of our East Coast locations, New Hampshire and New York, your tile is crafted with loving care by highly trained US artisans.

Each Job is Treated Individually

It’s our goal to create handmade tile that transforms everyday rooms into vibrant living spaces, and we design with a philosophy of simplicity and a reverence for craftsmanship and beauty. To that end, each tile order is handcrafted to order individually by artisans, right here in our riverside facility in West Swanzey, NH.  Our Modulus Collection, crafted to order in our Hornell, NY facility, was designed to integrate with the Basics Collection or stand on its own.

Stoneware Clay

All of Trikeenan tile is manufactured using a stoneware clay body fired to a fully vitrified state providing a very dense and durable tile form.  Our Basics collection is thoroughly freeze/thaw tested, all of our lines can be used on the floor and are commercially rated for co-efficient of friction.  As high-fired product, Trikeenan tile has very low absorption allowing almost no water to permeate through.  Therefore, Trikeenan tile is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, such as swimming pools, steam showers and baths, floors, walls, fireplaces, etc..

Ephemeral Colour

Trikeenan’s Basic's glaze palette offers a colour spectrum from subtle to brilliant, and finishes that range from matte to glossy. And we’re known for our uniquely “deep” glazes, which means that within one glaze there can be a tremendous range of colour.  Our Modulus Collection is 50 additional glaze colours designed to integrate with the Basic's Collection.  Modulus Field Tile have 3 finishes, Crackle Sateen, Matte or Metro Cotton gloss finish providing more consistent glaze colours in a larger format field tile.
