Trikeenan’s Commitment to
Social Responsibility
We
started our company in 1989 based on our love for great design. From the very beginning
though, we also ran our business in a sustainable, environmentally friendly
manner and as a local supplier with a strong commitment to our community.
To
this day all our tile is made right here in the North East United States. We
buy our clay here and work together with and support locally owned businesses. We’re
keeping jobs in the US and keeping a traditional American folk art alive and
well.
Green has long been more than just a colour for us.
It’s been a
way of life.
Beautiful tile...you feel good using.
Ceramic
tile and brick are some of the longest lasting surfaces for floors and walls. Tile
and brick are also made from naturally occurring, sustainable materials like
clay and calcium carbonate. When sourced locally, they are a product that has
one of the lowest amounts of embodied energies and thus the smallest carbon
footprint of any covering.
We
produce our beautiful tile while meeting strict US environmental standards. Trikeenan’s
tile and brick are also Green to the core – and have been long before it was
fashionable. Our brick is 100% post industrial recycled. We collect and reuse
clay, glaze waste and wastewater in our factories, and offer tile and brick
with 100% post-industrial recycled glaze and tile with post-consumer crushed
glass. We use water-based glazes that are 100% VOC-free. No VOCs escape
during manufacturing nor for the life of the product in your home or business. In addition, our
fired scrap clay is used in roadbeds by local towns and we have factory
stations dedicated to recycling and reusing cardboard and paper; you’ll even
get your tile in used clay boxes!
Our
products allow our customers to receive LEED credits in a variety of categories
for their green-building projects. In addition, building sites within 500 miles
of our factories are eligible for additional LEED points for the reduced amount
of fossil fuels used in shipping.
East Coast Installation?
You may qualify for the LEED 500-Mile regional credit. The USGBC LEED
standard awards credit for materials manufactured within 500 miles of the site.
Trikeenan is one of the few tile manufacturers to qualify for the 500-mile
regional LEED credit on the East Coast. With factories in New Hampshire and
upstate NY, our 500-mile territory reaches all or parts of 18 states,
Washington DC, and three Canadian Provinces. See the map below. The Green
circle depicts the 500 mile LEED region of our NY factory; the purple circle the
500 mile LEED region of our NH factory.
